The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), in collaboration with Tonga’s Ministry of Tourism, Tonga Tourism Authority, and Tonga Statistics Division, has launched its 2024 Worldwide Customer Survey (IVS) report, capturing the newest knowledge on tourism tendencies in Tonga. The survey, a part of the New Zealand Authorities-funded Pacific Tourism Information Initiative (PTDI), offers detailed insights into customer behaviors, demographics, and the financial affect of tourism on Tonga.

The IVS gathered responses from 205 contributors—160 adults and 35 kids—over six months from January to June 2024, representing about six p.c of whole guests to Tonga throughout this era. Key highlights embody customer demographics, reminiscent of nation of origin, age, gender, and first motivations for journey. Notable components drawing guests to Tonga included its wealthy cultural heritage, stress-free surroundings, heat climate, and household and good friend connections.

Throughout the survey interval, Tonga welcomed roughly 26,720 worldwide guests by air, contributing an estimated $42 million USD to the nation’s financial system.

SPTO Chief Government Officer Christopher Cocker emphasised the worth of the PTDI in delivering actionable tourism insights, aiding policymakers and companies throughout the Pacific area in fostering sustainable tourism development. “This report is a testament to SPTO’s dedication to providing accurate, data-driven insights that benefit both Tonga and other Pacific Island nations in understanding and advancing tourism,” Cocker said.

The PTDI initiative spans ten Pacific nations, together with Tonga, and encompasses the IVS, a Enterprise Confidence Index (BCI), and a Neighborhood Attitudes Survey (CAS). These instruments are pivotal in producing knowledge for knowledgeable decision-making amongst governments, companies, and communities throughout the Pacific.
